Description

Planned as a central node within the Mahindra University campus, the Student Recreation and Sports Center is envisioned as a shared space for recreation, fitness, and social interaction. The brief called for an inclusive facility that could accommodate both structured athletic activities and spontaneous student engagement. Located between key academic and residential clusters, the site naturally lent itself to becoming a pedestrian connector across the campus. The design approach prioritized creating a continuous ground plane integrating shaded courts, and walkways that dissolve the boundaries between built form and open landscape. Every element of the masterplan reinforces accessibility and flow, ensuring that the center becomes not just a recreational destination, but an everyday part of campus life.

Architecture Rooted in Movement and Openness

The architecture responds to programmatic diversity through two interlinked blocks that balance large-span sports zones with smaller activity rooms and lounges. Block A houses the main entry, reception, cafeteria, and multi-purpose hall that opens into landscaped courts for public gatherings. Block B accommodates indoor sports including a multipurpose hall, squash, table tennis, and fitness studios, with upper levels dedicated to yoga room overlooking the campus. Circulation spines are aligned to maximize daylight and ventilation, while deep overhangs and shaded terraces reduce glare and heat gain. Collectively, the design establishes a balanced environment where physical activity, relaxation, and community coexist embodying Mahindra University’s vision of holistic and contemporary campus living.
