Description

The city of Libreville is the capital of Gabon with a population of more than 500,000 people. The project site is located at the outskirts of Libreville where a new development is planned – the Angondje New Town Community. Phase 1 includes a Stadium and Residential as well as civic functions. Phase 2 includes the Resurgent Gabon Parcel which is the project site of approximately 182 ha with 33% green areas. The governing planning system is the SmartCode, offered to the Gabonese authorities by USA based consultants as a fresh and workable approach to achieving their municipal objectives within a framework of order and predictability. This is based on New Urbanism Principles and the idea of the Transect.

The master plan continues the proposed road networks from Phase 1 as an extension of the development. Integrating the existing rivers on site, with the new development, provided opportunities to create vast open spaces as required under the SmartCode and as become necessary for a large township, along with other amenities such as school, place of worship, shopping center, sports areas, community center etc. Three distinct nodes form the central design element, with strong axis connecting the same. The primary land use is residential, with a base density varying from 30 units/ha to 240 units/ha.
