Description
AIIMS Campus in Mangalgiri, Andhra Pradesh, India, by the Government of India’s Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has been designed keeping in mind the AIIMS’s trinity of goals: Education, research, and patient care.
The 173-acre campus is nestled between the picturesque hillocks of the Tadepalli reserve forest which aides in creating a healing environment. The campus has zones defined for healthcare, academic and residential zones to create a holistic environment. The medical zone stands with a 960-bed hospital and Outpatient department. The best practices of evidence-based design have been incorporated so as to focus on creating a holistic model where patient treatment, research, and both healthcare receiver and provider receive equal support and have a good user experience.
The site is a contoured one and it gives ample opportunities to play with levels and create interesting linkages between different zones of the site, walkways lined with extensive greens and create a well-knit pedestrian friendly campus. The
circulation pattern is divided into public, private, service, and emergency zones, illustrating the careful organization and functioning of an institution as AIIMS.
The site is divided horizontally into two zones where the residential functions quarters for faculty, nursing staff, and students’ hostels, along with amenities such as a Faculty Club, a student recreation centre are towards the South & South eastern end of the site and the Medical and Educational areas are towards the North & North Western end. Other facilities include AYUSH Block and a Dharamshala for the patients from far off places.
