Sustainable development representing inclusive planning and corporate social responsibility have been JSW's core values, on their road to growth and rapid expansion. 'Global recognition for quality and efficiency while nurturing nature and Society', the company's vision statement, was our cue while planning their township for Salboni.
Understanding the complexities of planning residential communities within close proximity to large industrial environments, prompted us to find planning and architectural solutions to issues of air pollution, noise levels, industrial effluence and discharge and the health and safety of the JSW employees. Converting these challenges into opportunities was what defined our design process.
Our master plan was developed as an inclusive township embodying an enduring and legible vision for JSW and its employees. The development process evolved out of the desire to create distinct and vibrant neighbourhoods woven together with an engaging quality of public spaces, within a safe and secure public realm. Well defined design standards for residential and infrastructural planning were at the heart of the design process, with an aim to achieve a maintenance friendly township.
The cross-axes of the central park and the amenity spine are the key features of the development. Our architectural expressions are tied in with the local cultural and historic references of the region's rich heritage. Overall, an affordable, flexible and adaptive master plan that tries to define a relationship between industrialisation and urbanisation was our goal.
Today's urban communities are in constant need of responsive place-making strategies that generate desirable urban experiences coexisting with the socio-economic and environmental contexts. The Edifice Urban Design Studio constitutes a team of urban designers, architects and landscape architects to respond to these growing needs. Further, our ideas are stimulated by community participation and the opportunities of providing an enhanced quality of life index- the city and community is our primary stakeholder. We look upon creating integrated towns and neighborhoods with a sustainable future not only through the public participation process but also through collaborative efforts with specialists in the field of planning and infrastructure. Ours is as an inter-disciplinary practice that negotiates between actors in the urban dynamic.By planning of the public realm and encouraging adaptive strategies that respond to changes over time we create vibrant, equitable communities that are healthy, walkable, and mixed-use. We follow a design process that encourages sustainable best practices. Our team is committed to incorporating sustainable design principles into every planning and design project at the macro and micro- scale.
