Niraamaya is a hand-picked collection of luxury boutique retreat offering exclusive sensory experiences. The designed resort is intended to offer a unique, trendy, intimate, warm and thematic stay. The site is located at Kumarakom, on the western shore of Lake Vembanad in the backwaters of Kerala. The design programme comprised of 26 keys housed in villas, a comprehensive wellness center, the public areas including the reception, all day dining, and the speciality restaurant, in addition to the BOH areas.
The design was primarily conceived as a landscape design into which a restrained quantum of architectural development was introduced. The architecture is strongly evocative of the traditional architecture of Kerala in both vocabulary and materiality. A touch of modernity is infused through some embracing, a reductive approach in the detailing of architectural elements.
The traditional architecture is complemented on the inside by interiors that feature a prominent colonial character and honest use of local materials resulting in calm and contemplative spaces.
